Education & Medical Background

Dr. Raymond Chao is a licensed naturopathic physician, chiropractor, and acupuncturist with advanced training in integrative and functional medicine. He earned his Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine and a Master’s degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Bastyr University in Seattle, WA. Prior to Bastyr, Dr. Chao completed his Bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Sciences and Dietetics at the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ.

Following graduation, Dr. Chao completed a one-year CNME certified Primary Care residency with a specialized focus in Sports Medicine and Pain Management under Dr. Masahiro Takakura, ND, DC, LAc, PhD in Seattle. He later expanded his clinical expertise by earning his Doctorate in Chiropractic Medicine from the National University of Health Sciences, allowing him to offer a truly comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to patient care.

Dr. Chao is passionate about education and community outreach. He provides weekly educational lectures through IBDU, supporting individuals living with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, and serves as a health consultant for Crohn’s and Colitis Lifestyle.

His clinical interests include gastrointestinal health, optimal wellness and preventative care, men’s health, sports medicine, and pain management. Throughout his education and career, Dr. Chao has pursued extensive advanced training in techniques such as Craniosacral therapy, visceral manipulation (Barral Institute), functional nutrition, advanced IV therapy, acupuncture pain management, sports medicine and emergency care, Kinesio Taping 1-4 (through Kinesio University), mind-body medicine, trigger point therapy, ultrasound-guided assessment, FAKTR soft tissue techniques, and clinically relevant exercise programming.

He also volunteered as medical staff in a number of free health clinics and sporting events in the Seattle area, such as the AMEN clinic, Spikefest, Seattle Marathon and Emerald City Volleyball Tournament, offering medical care and aid.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Chao enjoys spending time with his wife, child, and dog, as well as weight lifting, hiking, and cooking.
